18 February 2005 - Statement on Sudan 1 from 3663
The Foods Standards Agency is today advising people not to eat foods that have been inadvertently contaminated with an illegal dye, Sudan 1. This was in a batch of chilli powder used by Premier Foods to manufacture a Worcester Sauce, which was then used as an ingredient in a wide range of products. Sudan 1 is a red dye that is not permitted to be added to food in the UK and the rest of the EU.
3663 First for Foodservice prides itself on the quality of its products and acts immediately when there is any cause for concern. 3663 is liaising with the Food Standards Agency to ensure that any potentially affected products are identified and action is taken. Known products have been placed on hold and a full customer recall via the normal procedure is currently being undertaken.
